What are the differences in thickness between 16pt, 20pt, and 26pt?
Business cards are measured in points (pt), which refers to the thickness of the cardstock. The higher the number, the thicker the card. A 20pt card is thicker than a 16pt card, and a 26pt card is thicker than both of them.
To compare these thicknesses to the average business card used today, the average business card is around 12pt to 14pt thick. So, a 16pt soft touch business card will feel significantly thicker and more substantial than a regular business card. A 20pt card will feel even thicker and more luxurious, while a 26pt card will feel incredibly sturdy and substantial.
There are several reasons why someone might choose to have a 16pt business card rather than a 26pt business card. Firstly, 16pt cards are more affordable compared to thicker options. So, if you're on a tight budget, 16pt cards are a good choice. Secondly, 16pt cards are easier to carry around and store in a wallet or cardholder since they are thinner and lighter. This makes them a more practical choice if you need to carry a large number of cards with you.
Additionally, it's worth noting that 26pt cards can be more difficult to bend compared to 16pt cards due to their thickness. This can make them less practical in situations where you need to hand out your card quickly and easily. Ultimately, the thickness you choose for your business card depends on your personal preference, budget, and the impression you want to make on potential clients or business partners.
What does Silk Matte (Soft Touch) feel like?
The term "Silk Matte" is essentially a synonym for "Soft Touch" coating. Soft touch texture on a business card feels smooth and velvety to the touch. When you run your fingers over a business card with a soft touch finish, it provides a luxurious tactile sensation, similar to the feeling of suede or a peach skin. This texture is achieved by applying a special coating to the card stock that gives it a soft, matte finish, which not only feels great but also adds an elegant look to the card. Overall, soft touch business cards can leave a lasting impression on the person receiving them, making them a popular choice for those looking to make a statement with their business cards.
What are the differences between your matte coatings?
When it comes to printed materials, the type of coating you choose can make a significant impact on the overall look and feel of your design. Matte coatings, in particular, offer a range of benefits for various purposes. Here's a quick rundown of our most popular matte coatings:
Matte: This coating provides a subtle sheen when held against light, thanks to its varnish-like liquid form. The texture is smooth, and you can even write on it with a ballpoint pen. Just make sure to let the ink dry before touching it to avoid smudging.
Silk Matte (Soft Touch): This coating is our most popular matte option due to its distinct "soft touch" texture. However, note that colors may appear slightly muted with Silk Matte. For a more vibrant look, we suggest choosing a Matte coating or a coating that enhances colors like Semi Gloss or Super Gloss.
Textured Matte: If you're looking for a unique texture, Textured Matte offers a sandy-like feel without compromising the quality of the print. It's also durable and protects against scuffing.
When selecting a coating for your printed materials, keep in mind the type of design you want to achieve and the purpose of the piece. With the right matte coating, your design can stand out and leave a lasting impression.
Unlike our Soft Touch and Textured Matte cards, our Standard Matte cards do not have a film coating applied to them. The film applied to the other two options acts as a protective coating in addition to providing texture.
Can Silk Matte be written on?
Silk Matte can be easily written on with a standard ball point pen or permanent marker (gel or inky pens will smudge).
For optimal results, please consider an uncoated stock as it can be written on with any writing utensil.
Is Silk Matte coating waterproof?
Silk Matte coating is not fully waterproof as the laminate is on the front and back of the cards only - it does not seal the edges of the card. This coating will still provide some water resistance and can be wiped down with a damp cloth without damaging the card.
