What does Cannabis paper look like?
Made from the hemp plant, cannabis paper - also known as hemp paper - is not only environmentally friendly but very different from tree paper. Because it consists exclusively (or primarily) of pulp obtained from fibers in the hemp plant, cannabis paper has a unique look and feel. The following three distinguishing factors set cannabis apart from regular tree paper:
- The Colour
Unlike the stark white of regular tree paper, the hemp plant give the paper produced from it a cream color. The cream color has a warm tone and falls between beige (#F5F5DC) and antique white (#FAEBD7).
- The Texture
Unlike tree paper, cannabis paper does not have a smooth texture. Instead, it is a textured paper that has a natural, uncoated feel.
- The Durability
Due to its long fibers, hemp paper has a higher tear resistance and tensile strength when compared to wood paper. It also far superior to tree paper as it does not yellow, crack, or deteriorate, making it the durable option in the paper industry.
What are the benefits of Cannabis Paper?
Since the 1930s, Cannabis paper - also known as hemp paper - has flown under the radar with tree paper dominating the paper industry. Made from the hemp plant, cannabis paper has always had a stigma attached to it. But since the legalization of cannabis in numerous countries, including the USA, the cannabis and hemp industry has flourished. Today hemp products, including paper, have slowly but steadily grown in popularity.
But why use hemp paper instead of tree paper? The answer is simple: it is an eco-friendly, sustainable, and high-quality product. Here are all the benefits of cannabis paper:
- You Get More Paper With Less Hemp Plant
A single hemp plant can produce more paper than a single tree because it contains a higher cellulose content! Cellulose is the main ingredient in all papers. Wood is made up of 30% of cellulose, while hemp has 85% cellulose content. This makes hemp far superior to wood.
- Requires Less Land & Time To Produce
Two things are essential when it comes to the production of paper: land for growing and time to produce the plants. For both of these factors, hemp trumps trees! One acre of hemp produces the equivalent amount of paper that up to ten acres of trees. And unlike tree paper that takes 20 to 80 years to grow, hemp plants only take four months to mature.
- Cannabis Paper Requires Less Harmful Chemicals To Produce
Lignin is found in both wood and hemp, and it is essential to remove this ingredient from the plant pulp before it can be processed into paper. It can only be extracted from the plant with toxic chemicals. Hemp contains 5-24% of lignin, while wood contains 20-35% making the hemp plant more eco-friendly as it is made with fewer toxic chemicals.
- Higher Quality Paper
The quality of hemp paper is far superior to tree paper as it does not yellow, crack, or deteriorate. So whether you use it for notebooks, a print project, or a birthday card, you are guaranteed a higher quality product.
- Hemp Paper Can Be Recycled More Than Tree Paper
Paper - newspaper and magazines - is one of the most recycled products in the world. But most paper that is recycled is made of wood, which means it can only be recycled three times. Unlike tree paper, hemp paper can be recycled up to seven times, making it more recyclable.
What are Cannabis Business cards?
Cannabis is a versatile plant with numerous potential uses, including the production of paper. While it is not a commonly used method due to the availability of other fibers like wood and hemp, the process of making paper from cannabis is similar to that used for other fibers. Cannabis business cards, on the other hand, are specifically designed for individuals or companies in the cannabis industry, and they provide key information about the business and its products or services.
To make paper from cannabis, the plant is first broken down into its fibers. The fibers are then separated from other plant material using a process called "retting," which involves soaking the plant material in water to break down the natural bonds between the fibers and the rest of the plant. After the fibers are separated, they are cleaned and refined through boiling, beating, and pressing. The resulting pulp can then be formed into sheets of paper using a press or similar equipment.
Although cannabis can be used to make paper, it is not a popular choice due to the low yields of fiber per acre compared to other crops and the legal restrictions on cultivating cannabis in many areas. Hemp, a strain of cannabis with low levels of THC, is a more common choice for paper production due to its higher fiber yields and legal status in many regions.
Cannabis business cards are similar to regular business cards, but they are specifically designed for individuals or companies in the cannabis industry. These cards typically include essential information such as the name and logo of the business, contact information, and sometimes a brief description of the services or products offered. Cannabis business cards may also include additional information such as the type of cannabis products or strains offered, any certifications or licenses the business has obtained, and any relevant regulatory information.
In summary, while cannabis can be used to make paper, it is not a popular choice due to the availability of other fibers and legal restrictions. On the other hand, cannabis business cards are essential marketing tools for businesses in the cannabis industry, providing crucial information to potential customers and partners.
